While Bitcoin (BTC) prices hover below $65,000, a new report from River indicates a significant acceleration in adoption across institutions, businesses, and even nation-states throughout 2025.

Institutions acquired an estimated 829,000 Bitcoin in 2025, including major players like corporations, ETFs, and government entities. Investment advisors overseeing trillions in assets have consistently purchased Bitcoin exposure for eight consecutive quarters, primarily driven by the launch of spot Bitcoin ETFs.

Traditional banks are increasingly developing Bitcoin-related products, with approximately 60% of major US banks exploring offerings. Corporate ownership of Bitcoin more than doubled in 2025, establishing businesses as significant net buyers. Merchant adoption also saw a substantial rise, with the number of businesses accepting BTC payments tripling in the US and growing 74% globally.

Nation-states are also expanding their Bitcoin holdings, with five new countries entering the market in 2025. Governments have accumulated Bitcoin through diverse channels, including mining, direct purchases, and asset seizures.

River's analysis highlights a striking divergence between current price performance and robust adoption trends, suggesting a strong foundation for future growth.
