Indian crypto exchange CoinDCX co-founders Sumit Gupta and Neeraj Khandelwal were questioned by Thane Police over allegations of criminal breach of trust tied to a fraudulent website mimicking their platform.
The case stems from a complaint by a Mumbai-based insurance consultant who lost approximately $75,000 after investing via the fake site. CoinDCX issued a statement denying any connection, calling the FIR a fabricated conspiracy by impersonators.

The exchange reported over 1,212 websites impersonating its domain between April 2024 and January 2026. It emphasized ongoing cooperation with authorities and user education efforts.
This follows a July 2025 security breach where $44 million was stolen from an internal account, though customer funds remained unaffected.
