The quantum risk to Bitcoin is real-but not all wallets are equally vulnerable. Galaxy Digital research analyst Will Owens says funds are at risk only when public keys are exposed on-chain.
Two exposure paths exist: wallets with already-visible public keys, and those revealing keys at time of spending.

Owens refutes claims that Bitcoin Core developers are ignoring quantum threats. He notes accelerated work since late 2025-including BIP 360-and calls the ecosystem’s post-quantum proposals concrete, reviewed, and actively debated.
Governance remains a hurdle: no central authority can mandate upgrades. But Owens stresses alignment-miners, holders, and exchanges all share direct financial stakes in network security.
For investors: the threat is real, recognized, and being addressed by top-tier contributors.
