Nahum Reynaldo Castro, a 40-year-old IT specialist from Miami, was arrested on May 26 on charges of first-degree grand theft and money laundering. He is accused of stealing approximately $1.9 million in Bitcoin from a former employer.
The theft allegedly took place in 2020 but remained undetected until July 2025 during a move. Castro had managed the victim's hardware wallet since 2013 and was one of only two people who knew the seed phrase.
The victim began buying Bitcoin in December 2017. By January 2018, the wallet held over $217,000. Castro continued working as the IT specialist until 2024.
Investigators traced bank records showing deposits into Castro's accounts that corresponded with withdrawals from the missing Bitcoin holdings.
Castro faces charges including first-degree grand theft and money laundering for amounts exceeding $100,000, plus unlawful use of a communications device. Bond is set at $50,000.
