US prosecutors have rejected Tornado Cash co-founder Roman Storm's bid for acquittal, criticizing his alleged criminal use of the cryptocurrency mixer. In a filing with the US District Court for the Southern District of New York, prosecutors dismissed Storm's attempt to use a civil copyright case as a defense.

Storm's defense had sought to introduce a 2026 Supreme Court case concerning civil copyright infringement in arguments about his intent. Prosecutors argued Storm's conduct bore no resemblance to the cited case and lacked evidence of any effective anti-money-laundering measures. Last August, Storm was convicted of operating an unlicensed money transmitting business, with a jury deadlocked on charges of conspiracy to commit money laundering and violate sanctions, leading to a potential retrial.
