Solana developer Anza has announced that Alpenglow, the network's largest proposed consensus overhaul, is now live on a community test cluster. This marks a critical step toward a mainnet rollout.
The upgrade aims to replace parts of the current system-Proof-of-Stake, TowerBFT, and Proof-of-History-with a new framework designed to cut transaction finality from seconds to near real-time. Validator operators can now test the software, which may lead to enhanced network stability.
Anza confirmed the milestone, with Solana co-founder Anatoly Yakovenko suggesting at Consensus Miami 2026 that Alpenglow could hit mainnet by next quarter if testing proceeds smoothly.
