London, UK - British MP Jess Asato has filed a lawsuit against Elon Musk’s AI company xAI, claiming its Grok chatbot was used to generate non-consensual sexual deepfake images of her. The case, filed in June 2026, is a landmark legal challenge for the AI industry in the UK.
Asato, a Labour MP representing Lowestoft, says the explicit images were created in January 2026 using Grok's image generation tools. She alleges it was done without her permission, knowledge, or immediate recourse.
Asato, elected to Parliament in July 2024, has been a vocal advocate for stricter controls on AI-generated imagery. xAI faces simultaneous legal actions in the US, including a class action suit, and scrutiny from UK privacy regulators.
The lawsuit argues that Grok’s less restrictive content filters enabled users to generate the explicit images. A ruling in Asato's favor could set a precedent that AI developers are liable for harmful outputs, fundamentally shifting the risk calculus for tech companies and investors.
