Vitalik Buterin has introduced a Fast Confirmation Rule for Ethereum. The mechanism delivers high-confidence transaction finality in one slot-approximately 12 seconds.
Currently, moving funds from Ethereum mainnet to Layer 2s or exchanges takes several minutes. The new rule could reduce that wait by up to 98%.
Faster confirmations improve capital efficiency and liquidity for bridges and exchanges. They also lower operational risk and cost.
The rule relies on Ethereum’s existing validator honesty assumptions and does not require a hard fork. Implementation is expected in the coming months.
