This is a creative pivot, not a departure from Ethereum. He is choosing a different medium to wrestle with the same questions he's asked for a decade: how do decentralized systems function with real humans involved?
The shift aligns with the Ethereum Foundation moving toward research and user experience as core priorities, decoupling the strategic direction from any single individual.
Ethereum has major technical upgrades on its roadmap, including Fusaka and Glamsterdam, along with RISC-V integration and zero-knowledge virtual machines (zkVMs). For investors, the short-term trajectory remains unchanged. Buterin's blog served as a coordination mechanism. Losing that informal signaling creates a vacuum that someone or some process will need to fill.
