Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin announced plans to build a "cypherpunk-principled" layer as an integrated extension to the Ethereum network. This new layer targets core improvements including enhanced censorship resistance, compatibility with zero-knowledge cryptography, and streamlined consensus mechanisms.

Buterin envisions this bolt-on layer becoming the primary system within five years, potentially with AI-assisted development, as the existing Ethereum framework is re-implemented into the new structure.

This initiative comes in response to suggestions for a complete rebuild of Ethereum. The current network faces criticism over fragmentation from numerous secondary networks.

Governance proposals are also under consideration, focusing on features like forced inclusion lists for validators and enhanced wallet security with multi-signature and quantum-resistant capabilities.
