Payments giant Visa announced Tuesday it has become an anchor validator for the Tempo blockchain network. This move places Visa alongside Stripe and Zodia Custody by Standard Chartered in supporting the layer-1 blockchain designed for agentic commerce and real-time payments.
The companies involved collectively process trillions of dollars in payment volume annually, marking a substantial institutional adoption for blockchain payment infrastructure. Additional validators are expected to be announced.
Visa confirmed its validator node was configured and managed in-house after six months of collaborative work with Tempo's engineering team. Cuy Sheffield, Visa Head of Crypto, stated, "By operating a validator on Tempo, we’re extending Visa’s commitment to reliability, security, and trust into blockchain networks." This supports the development of stablecoin payment systems meeting high client and partner standards.
The Tempo blockchain launched its mainnet in March and introduced the Machine Payments Protocol (MPP), enabling AI agents to autonomously pay for services. As a validator, Visa will earn stablecoin rewards for processing transactions into blocks.
