Social media platform X is planning to introduce stricter guidelines for users posting about crypto for the first time, following a scam involving the world's oldest tortoise, Jonathan. A scammer used the guise of vet Joe Hollins to spread misinformation, leading to a dramatic surge in a Solana-based memecoin's value before it plummeted.
The proposed rules may include automatically locking accounts and requiring verification when mentioning crypto. X’s head of product, Nikita Bier, believes this could prevent most such scams.
Joe Hollins has clarified that Jonathan the tortoise is alive, criticizing the misuse of his identity for crypto donations.
