Canada's alcohol sales have fallen for the fourth consecutive year, marking the steepest annual decrease since tracking started in 2004/2005. In the fiscal year 2024-25, sales dropped three percent by volume, totaling 2,898 million liters.

Overall dollar value sales declined 1.6 percent to $25.8 billion, despite a 1.6 percent price increase for alcoholic beverages. Beer sales, the largest category, fell 3.8 percent by volume, marking the ninth consecutive annual decline. Imported wine sales also decreased for the first time since 1992/1993.

Spirits sales dropped 3.2 percent by volume, though ciders and coolers were the only category to see an increase in sales. In contrast, recreational cannabis sales rose 11.5 percent during the same period.
