Bank of Montreal announced plans to launch a tokenized cash platform in collaboration with CME Group and Google Cloud, aiming to support round-the-clock trading and real-time payments.
The platform will allow institutional clients to convert U.S. dollars into digital instruments for use in margined derivatives and settlement at the CME exchange.
BMO says the move addresses growing demand for continuous capital access, reducing funding gaps and operational delays.
Expected to launch in the second half of 2026, subject to regulatory approval, the system will serve as a programmable, regulated settlement layer for capital markets and commercial banking.
