Meta Platforms is actively building a cloud business to sell its excess artificial intelligence computing capacity, according to a new report.

The strategy represents a direct challenge to established cloud giants Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud. It could significantly reduce Meta's dependence on its core advertising revenue stream.

CEO Mark Zuckerberg confirmed the plan is under consideration, stating other companies frequently approach Meta seeking access to its AI models and spare computing power. He noted the move would become a reality if the company determines it has overbuilt its data center infrastructure.

The report comes amid a massive industry-wide investment in AI, with spending on infrastructure expected to exceed 700 billion dollars this year.
