HSBC announced a multi-year partnership with Google Cloud to accelerate its deployment of artificial intelligence across the organization.
The British bank will access Google's Gemini AI model and work with DeepMind engineering teams to identify priority projects. The initiative targets three main areas: personalized wealth management advice, financial crime risk management, and AI-empowered decision-making tools for frontline staff.
HSBC stated the partnership should enable 200 more AI tasks over the next two years, with each priority project capable of delivering over $100 million in revenue gains or efficiency improvements. The bank is already running 600 applications on Google Cloud.
CEO Georges Elhedery, who recently urged staff to embrace the technology, framed the move as building a future-ready institution. He previously warned that AI will destroy certain jobs while creating new ones.
