Milan prosecutors have requested a trial for Amazon's European division and four of its executives, alleging tax evasion totaling approximately 1.2 billion euros ($1.38 billion).

This development marks an unprecedented move in Italy, as Amazon had previously settled a similar tax dispute in December by paying 527 million euros, including interest, to the Italian Revenue Agency.

While international groups in past cases saw criminal investigations closed after settlements and payments, Milan prosecutors have chosen to proceed with their probe, leading to the request for the suspects to face trial.
