Spartan Race and Tough Mudder event registration fees are now covered by Health Savings Accounts (HSA) and Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) through a new partnership with Flex.
HSA and FSA funds, which are contributed with pre-tax dollars, can reduce out-of-pocket race costs by 30 to 40 percent. For a $150 registration, participants may pay as little as $90.
Users with HSA or FSA debit cards can pay directly at checkout. Flex handles backend eligibility verification, eliminating the need for post-purchase documentation.
The partnership includes all Spartan-branded events and Tough Mudder races. Both companies are exploring future extensions to cover training programs and recovery tools.
This move aligns with a broader trend: fitness is increasingly recognized as preventative healthcare. Equinox announced a similar HSA/FSA initiative last month for memberships and personal training.
For those holding unused FSA balances or accumulating HSA funds, race registration represents a financially smart, high-impact use of health dollars.
