A viral TikTok hack suggests freezing pajamas for heat relief. While initially refreshing, experts note the cool sensation is fleeting as the fabric quickly warms to room temperature.

With only 5-7% of UK homes having air conditioning and 'tropical nights' becoming more common due to climate change, the search for cooling solutions is urgent. High nighttime temperatures prevent recovery and increase health risks.

Research indicates long-term architectural solutions are more effective than temporary hacks. A study found that painting roofs white in London could have lowered city temperatures by 0.8°C during a record 2018 heatwave, preventing an estimated 249 heat-related deaths.

Rooftop solar panels also provide a cooling effect by creating a barrier and reflecting sunlight. The same study suggested widespread adoption could have cooled London by 0.3°C, preventing 96 deaths. Green shading from trees can lower surface temperatures by up to 25°C.
