Microsoft and Mayo Clinic are partnering to build a specialized artificial intelligence model for healthcare. The model combines Mayo Clinic’s clinical expertise and anonymized health data with Microsoft’s cloud and AI infrastructure.

The AI is designed to analyze diverse clinical information to support earlier diagnosis and more personalized treatment plans.

“We have long believed AI can help transform healthcare,” said Dr. Gianrico Farrugia, president and CEO of Mayo Clinic. “By combining our clinical expertise and data foundation with Microsoft’s engineering and AI capabilities, we are building something new in healthcare.”

The model will be owned by Mayo Clinic but made available by Microsoft through its Azure Foundry APIs for developers.

Initial deployment is within Mayo Clinic’s clinical environment for real-world testing. No timeline was given for broader release.

Medical AI faces strict safety, privacy, and validation standards. Under the EU AI Act, such software is classified as high-risk, requiring robust risk mitigation and human oversight.
