Stripe co-founders Patrick and John Collison are dedicating $500 million to Intercept, a new nonprofit with an ambitious mission: eradicating respiratory viruses. The initiative will initially target the common cold and influenza, conditions that have resisted a universal cure for decades due to over 200 virus types.
Intercept operates independently of Stripe’s payment processing empire, though it aligns with the brothers’ history of backing science. Patrick Collison previously co-founded the Arc Institute, advancing biomedical research.
The commitment places Intercept among the largest private health philanthropy efforts. Stripe, which processes payments for thousands of nonprofits, now adds a major biomedical initiative to its narrative-without launching tokens or commercial health products.
