Former Austria national team goalkeeper Alex Manninger has died in a road accident at the age of 48. Manninger, who previously played for Arsenal and numerous Italian clubs, was involved in a collision with a passenger train near Salzburg, Austria.

Manninger represented Austria 33 times and played for Arsenal from 1997 to 2001. He concluded his career with Liverpool between 2016 and 2017. His extensive career in Italy included stints with Fiorentina, Torino, Bologna, Siena, Udinese, and Juventus.

The Austrian Football Association (OEFB) described Manninger as an "outstanding ambassador" for Austrian football, noting his professionalism and influence on young goalkeepers.
