Less than two years ago, Alessandro Circati faced a career-threatening torn ACL. Today, the 22-year-old Parma central defender is preparing to anchor Australia’s defense at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Circati, born in Italy but raised in Perth, has established himself as a regular starter in Serie A. His inclusion in the final 26-man Socceroos squad follows a successful rehabilitation that saw him keep clean sheets during World Cup qualifying against Japan earlier this year.
His rise has been meteoric. In September 2025, Circati became the youngest player to captain Australia since 1981. He made his international debut in October 2023 and earned his first senior call-up in June 2024.
For Circati, representing his country on home soil represents the realization of a childhood dream. The Socceroos are expected to deploy him in a three-man defensive setup as they prepare for the global tournament.
