Colombian midfielder Jaminton Campaz is in hiding in the United States after receiving death threats targeting him and his family.

The threats followed Colombia's elimination from the 2026 FIFA World Cup after a knockout-stage loss to Switzerland, during which Campaz missed a penalty.

The Colombian Football Federation condemned the threats on July 10, 2026, and called for an immediate investigation by the Attorney General's office.

The situation marks a dramatic fall. Just three weeks earlier, on June 17, Campaz had scored Colombia's latest-ever World Cup goal against Uzbekistan, becoming a national hero.

The FCF's statement emphasized that no athlete or their family should face such intimidation. Authorities believe the threats may be linked to organized criminal networks, not just angry fans.
