Kingston native Aaliyah Edwards is gearing up for her third WNBA season and her first full year with the Connecticut Sun. After being traded from her previous team where she was seldom used, Edwards is motivated to prove herself.

"I want to prove people wrong," Edwards stated. "Individually, I’ve been working really hard to kind of get back to what I do best, which is just to dominate."

During her rookie season in 2024, Edwards averaged 7.6 points and 5.6 rebounds. Her production saw a dip in 2025, but she is now slated for an integral role with the Sun.

Edwards credits her strong performance in the off-season Unrivalled 3-on-3 league for regaining her love for the sport. She also looks forward to learning from veteran Brittney Griner, a recent addition to the Sun.

The WNBA's sale of the Sun and its impending relocation to Houston is bittersweet for Edwards, who played her college ball at the University of Connecticut. She anticipates the move will bring both old and new fans.

Before the relocation, Edwards is focused on the upcoming season, which includes her first professional game on home soil in Toronto against the Tempo. The WNBA's expansion into multiple Canadian cities, including Toronto, Vancouver, and Montreal, is a point of pride for Edwards, inspiring the next generation of female athletes.
