All Elite Wrestling (AEW) opened a special double episode of "Dynamite" and "Collision" Wednesday with a 10-bell salute to Ted Turner, who died Tuesday at 87. Turner, the founder of CNN and former owner of TBS and TNT, purchased World Championship Wrestling (WCW) in the 1980s, bringing professional wrestling to national cable television.
AEW commentator Tony Schiavone, who began at TBS in 1985, recalled Turner's passion and vision. "Ted Turner believed in pro wrestling," Schiavone said. "He believed in you, the fans, and he believed that pro wrestling belonged on national television."
Pro wrestling legend Sting also paid tribute, calling Turner an "all-in billionaire who absolutely loved pro wrestling." Sting noted that without Turner, there would be no TNT title, no Sting, and no AEW on TBS or TNT.
