CAPE TOWN, March 18 - Confederation of African Football President Patrice Motsepe confirmed persistent trust issues in African football following Senegal's stripped Africa Cup of Nations title.
Senegal won the January 18 final 1-0 against Morocco in Rabat but walked off for 14 minutes protesting a penalty decision. They returned to win in extra time. CAF's Appeal Board later awarded the title to Morocco, ruling Senegal violated tournament regulations.
Motsepe called the incident a setback to CAF's integrity efforts, stressing its disciplinary and appeal boards comprise respected legal professionals. He denied preferential treatment for Morocco, affirming all 54 African nations receive equal treatment. Senegal plans to appeal the decision.
