Alyssa Liu stands as Team USA's final hope for an individual gold medal in figure skating at the Winter Olympics.
Liu, the reigning world champion, secured a strong position after the short program, executing the most difficult combination attempted by any woman. She trails the leader by a narrow margin, positioned just behind her Japanese rivals.

"I am really happy about how I skated," Liu stated. "It was a really cool moment, because they never come to watch like this. I’m really glad I did super well. I felt super grounded and I connected with my program on another level."
Fellow American skaters Amber Glenn and Isabeau Levito faced difficulties, finishing outside medal contention. This follows a pattern of disappointing individual results for other US skating stars, despite the team's earlier gold medal win.

Powerhouse ice dancers Madison Chock and Evan Bates earned silver, while Olympic favorite Ilia Malinin experienced a shocking exit from the men's competition after multiple falls.

All eyes are now on Liu to secure a rare individual gold for the United States in figure skating. Liu remains focused on her performance, stating, "Whether I beat them or not is not my goal. My goal is just to do my programs and share my story."
