Bordeaux winger Louis Bielle-Biarrey scored two tries as the French club overwhelmed Leinster 41-19 to secure back-to-back European Champions Cup titles in Bilbao, Spain.
Scrumhalf Maxime Lucu, wing Pablo Uberti, and center Yoram Moefana also crossed the line for Bordeaux, who built a commanding 35-7 halftime lead. Leinster, now losers in four of the last five finals, managed tries from winger Tommy O’Brien, lock Joe McCarthy, and center Garry Ringrose.
Bordeaux's aggressive rush defense forced critical errors from the Irish side, even as they lost Lucu and Ugo Boniface to yellow cards and flanker Cameron Woki to a serious leg injury. Lucu contributed 21 points through five conversions and two penalties.
"It is incredible," Bielle-Biarrey said. "Back-to-back champions, it is amazing. This group of players is unbelievable."
Leinster coach Leo Cullen acknowledged his team's lack of clinical execution, saying, "Bordeaux were just a bit quicker to those scraps. They were very clinical. Huge credit to them, they were worthy champions today."
