Denver Broncos linebacker Jonathon Cooper and his girlfriend were arrested early Friday morning on domestic violence charges in Colorado.

Both were held on suspicion of two counts of domestic violence and one count of criminal mischief, according to Douglas County jail records.

The couple, who have been involved on and off for years, was at Cooper’s residence when an argument broke out over alleged infidelity. The woman grabbed Cooper’s phone and threw it against a wall, then regained control to search it, the arrest affidavit states.

A physical struggle ensued for the phone. Cooper demanded she leave, threatening to break her cell phone if she did not. When she refused, he bit and broke the screen of the iPhone, per the affidavit.

Cooper appeared in court at 9:45 a.m. Friday and was released on a personal recognizance bond. A follow-up hearing is set for Monday, where he is expected to enter a plea.

Cooper, 28, has played five seasons with the Broncos since being drafted from Ohio State in the seventh round. Last season, he recorded 50 tackles and eight sacks. In November 2024, he signed a four-year, $60 million contract extension.
