Bayern Munich is set to host holders Paris St Germain in their Champions League semi-final return leg, aiming for a goal-scoring sequel to their dramatic 5-4 loss in France. The previous match set a record for the most goals in a Champions League last-four game.
Despite trailing 5-2, Bayern scored twice in the second half to narrow the deficit in a nine-goal thriller. Coach Vincent Kompany anticipates an even more potent performance at home, backed by a large crowd. "We are at home, we will have 75,000 people in that stadium," Kompany stated. "We need a mass (of sound) in the stadium."
Kompany's treble-chasing team has already broken multiple goal-scoring records this season. Bayern has set a new Bundesliga record with 113 goals and is the first club to have three players-Harry Kane, Michael Olise, and Luis Diaz-with 10 or more goals and assists in a Champions League campaign. Kane leads the Champions League scoring with 13 goals and is also the top scorer in the Bundesliga.
"When you concede five goals in the Champions League, you're basically out but we scored four goals in Paris," Kompany reflected. "We can score goals, we've shown that and we will do it at home too." Bayern also competes in the German Cup final on May 23.
