Browns head coach Todd Monken is keeping the quarterback competition open, telling Cleveland radio station 92.3 The Fan that it is premature to name a starter. The Browns enter 2026 with three quarterbacks vying for the job: Shedeur Sanders, who took over as starter in Week 12 last season; Deshaun Watson, who remains on the physically unable to perform list; and Dillon Gabriel.
Reports indicate Watson has the inside track, but Monken insists no leader has emerged after just three practice days. Shilo Sanders has publicly backed his brother Shedeur's bid for QB1.
Monken, hired in January, plans to implement a new offensive system. He prefers one quarterback to separate from the group. The Browns went 5-12 last season and drafted Taylen Green in the sixth round. Organized team activities begin in mid-May, with mandatory minicamp in June and training camp in July.
