Colorado Avalanche head coach Jared Bednar will miss the remainder of the regular season after sustaining facial fractures and a corneal abrasion during a game Saturday night. Bednar was struck in the face by a puck during the team's overtime loss to the Vegas Golden Knights.

The team announced Bednar is expected to make a full recovery without surgery and will return for the playoffs. Assistant coaches Nolan Pratt and Dave Hakstol are expected to lead the team for the final two regular-season games.

The Avalanche, who clinched the top seed in the Western Conference, are aiming for their second Stanley Cup title under Bednar. Star player Nathan MacKinnon leads the NHL in goals and is third in assists and points.
