Canada has secured a spot in the Olympic men's ice hockey semi-finals after a thrilling 4-3 overtime victory against the Czech Republic. Mitch Marner scored the decisive goal just 82 seconds into the extra session, sending the pre-tournament favorites to the final four.
Down 2-3 late in the third period, Canada forced overtime when Nick Suzuki netted the equalizer. The Czech team put up a strong fight against Canada's roster of stars, but ultimately fell short in the closing moments.
Canada's scoring was initiated by Connor McDavid and Macklin Celebrini, with Celebrini assisting on the opening goal. The Czech Republic responded with goals from Lukas Sedlak and Martin Necas, taking a lead before Canada's Nathan MacKinnon tied the game on a power play. Ondrej Palat briefly put the Czechs ahead again, only for Suzuki to force overtime. Marner's clutch shot sealed the win.
Canada will now be re-seeded for the semi-finals, scheduled for Friday. Slovakia also advanced, defeating Germany 6-2.
