The general secretary of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Veron Mosengo-Omba, has resigned amid growing controversy over the Afcon final between Morocco and Senegal.
Mosengo-Omba, 66, cited allegations and internal conflicts in his resignation letter, claiming he now leaves CAF "more prosperous than ever." His tenure had been marred by criticism for exceeding the mandatory retirement age and accusations of fostering a toxic work environment-though an internal probe exonerated him.
The governing body is currently awaiting a ruling from the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) on Senegal’s appeal regarding their forfeited Afcon title. The dispute arose after Morocco was awarded a stoppage-time penalty during the final, leading to Senegal's withdrawal from play.
Samson Adamu, CAF’s competitions director, will act as general secretary pending further decisions.
