Celtic staged a dramatic late rally to defeat Heart of Midlothian 3-1 on Saturday, securing the Scottish Premiership title for a record 56th time in a nail-biting final-day showdown at Celtic Park.
With time running out and Hearts needing only a draw to claim their first title in 60 years, Daizen Maeda and Callum Osmand scored in stoppage time to shatter the visitors' dreams. Osmand's goal, a breakaway into an empty net on the final kick of the game, sent Celtic fans streaming onto the pitch in celebration.
"This season has been mental," said Celtic full-back Kieran Tierney. "We never give up. This team is the most mentally strong I've ever been involved with."
Hearts took the lead in the 43rd minute through Lawrence Shankland's header, but Celtic equalized before halftime via an Arne Engels penalty after a VAR handball decision. Maeda thought he had scored the winner earlier, only for the goal to be initially ruled offside before VAR confirmed it.
Hearts, who led the table for 226 days, pushed for a winner in stoppage time but were caught out when Osmand raced the length of the pitch to seal Celtic's victory. It was the 14th title in 15 seasons for Celtic, who were revitalized under interim manager Martin O'Neill since January.
