Canada will compete for Olympic gold without its captain, Sidney Crosby. The hockey superstar has been scratched from the men's semifinal against Finland due to a lower-body injury. Crosby sustained the injury during Canada's quarterfinal overtime victory against Czechia.
Connor McDavid will assume captaincy in Crosby's absence. The injury occurred in the second period when Crosby’s right leg buckled after a hit. He briefly continued playing before visibly discomforted and leaving the ice. The United States and Slovakia will compete in the other semifinal.
