The NCAA Division III men's basketball national championship concluded with a dramatic buzzer-beater, as the University of Mary Washington secured its first-ever title.
In a thrilling finish against Emory University, Mary Washington's Colin Mitchell scored off a rebound as time expired, clinching the victory. The play followed a missed fallaway shot by teammate Kye Robinson, who admitted he didn't take the easiest shot possible.
Emory had briefly tied the game with a 3-pointer from Ethan Fauss with 12 seconds remaining. Mary Washington had fought back from an eight-point deficit in the second half with a 14-2 run.
Robinson led Mary Washington with 27 points, while Emory's Knight and Fauss each scored 24. The championship marks a program-record 30 wins for Mary Washington this season and follows their elimination of defending champions Trinity in the semifinals.
