Former Australian tennis player Marinko Matosevic has been banned for four years by the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) for multiple anti-doping violations.

Matosevic, 40, who peaked at world No. 39 in 2013 and retired in 2018, admitted to undergoing a blood transfusion in Morelos, Mexico, near the end of his career. He later confessed publicly, calling his actions “reckless” and urging athletes to avoid similar health risks.

The ITIA cited five violations between 2018 and 2020, including using a prohibited blood-doping method, facilitating another player’s doping, advising players on evading detection, and possessing the banned substance clenbuterol.

Matosevic criticized the ITIA’s investigative methods, claiming reliance on private text messages and calling for systemic reform. The tribunal dismissed those allegations as baseless, affirming the agency acted within its authority.
