Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Dominiq Ponder died this weekend, head coach Deion Sanders confirmed Sunday. "God please comfort the Ponder family, friends and loved ones," Sanders posted on social media. "Dom was one of my favorites! He was Loved, Respected & a Born Leader."

Ponder was 23 years old. Details of his death are not yet known.

Ponder, a 6-foot-5, 200-pound quarterback, joined the Buffaloes in 2024 after transferring from Bethune-Cookman. He played in two games last season.

Fellow Buffaloes quarterback Colton Allen also paid tribute, stating, "Dom, you were a blessing to so many people. You had a presence about you that just made everything better."

Colorado's spring practices were set to begin Monday; it is unknown if they will be postponed.

The university's football account on X also offered condolences: "Our prayers are with Dominiq and the Ponder family along with all in the Colorado football program."
