Former NHL star Jeremy Roenick has strongly condemned criticism directed at the Team USA men's hockey team following their gold medal victory at the 2026 Winter Olympics.
Speaking on "Jesse Watters Primetime," Roenick expressed dismay that the triumph has been met with political commentary rather than national celebration. "Shame on everybody for not celebrating this," Roenick stated. "Sports is not supposed to be political. It’s supposed to unite the country."

He lamented the "politicization of the sport," calling those who engage in it "hypocrites" for failing to embrace a moment that should unite Americans. Roenick believes that most citizens were proud of the win, and the backlash is unfortunate.
The controversy appears to stem from players speaking with President Donald Trump after the victory. The President extended an invitation to the team for his State of the Union address, which several players eagerly accepted.

Roenick also highlighted the team's subsequent celebrations, including a bus tour in Miami and a party at a popular nightclub, suggesting these were moments of shared joy. He asserted that the team represents the U.S. with pride and that the nation's current state and sports achievements are reasons for optimism. "Our country has never been better and our sports, and hockey, has never been better. And that is something to be proud of."
