Former India captain and coach Rahul Dravid has been named a co-owner of the Dublin franchise in the new European Twenty20 league. The 53-year-old joins an Indian consortium that acquired the team in the six-team European T20 Premier League (ETPL), which is set to launch in September.

The Dublin team will be called the Dublin Guardians. Dravid joins other former cricket stars as owners in the league, including Chris Gayle (Glasgow), Faf du Plessis, Jonty Rhodes, and Heinrich Klaasen (Rotterdam), Nathan McCullum and Kyle Mills (Edinburgh), Glenn Maxwell (Belfast), and Steve Waugh (Amsterdam).

The ETPL is backed by the cricket boards of Ireland, Scotland, and the Netherlands, and its founders include Bollywood star Abhishek Bachchan.
