FIFA has raised the price of top-tier tickets for the 2026 World Cup final to $10,990, marking a significant increase from the initial price of $8,680 announced in December. This hike is part of FIFA's dynamic pricing strategy, which adjusts ticket costs based on demand and availability. The move has sparked criticism from consumer rights groups and US Congress members, who argue that it makes the tournament financially inaccessible.
During the latest sales phase, which opened with glitches, only a limited number of tickets were available for key matches. For instance, the highest-priced seats for the US opener against Paraguay were priced at $2,735, while the Mexico vs. Saudi Arabia match started at $2,985. Fans reported frustration with the purchasing process, as FIFA’s ticketing site was slow and links often directed users to incorrect sales phases.
FIFA defended its dynamic pricing approach, citing overwhelming demand for tickets. However, concerns remain about the affordability of the tournament, especially for fans of teams eliminated early. FIFA also operates its own resale platform, taking a 15% cut from both buyers and sellers.
