MILAN - Neutral athlete Adeliia Petrosian, competing under restrictions imposed on Russian athletes, missed the figure skating podium after falling on a quad jump. Petrosian, who had impressed in the short program to move into fifth place, scored 141.64 points in her free skate to finish sixth overall.
The 18-year-old expressed disappointment, stating, "I feel a bit ashamed in front of myself, the Federation, the coaches and the spectators that things turned out this way." She acknowledged her own fault as the hardest part of the outcome.
Petrosian's participation has drawn attention due to her coaching association with Eteri Tutberidze, a coach previously linked to doping controversies with other Russian skaters. Tutberidze, accredited through the Georgian federation, was present at the Games but barred from official rinkside roles for Petrosian due to IOC regulations.
Despite the setback, celebrated coach Tatyana Tarasova commented on the risk of attempting such complex jumps. "When you have a quad toeloop how can you not include it?" Tarasova stated, noting that consistency is challenging even for top athletes.
