Lahore Qalandars captain Fakhar Zaman has been charged with ball-tampering during Sunday’s Pakistan Super League (PSL) match against Karachi Kings.
The incident occurred in the final over when Karachi needed 14 runs to win. Zaman, along with Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf, briefly discussed the ball, leading to a consultation with umpires.
The umpires awarded five penalty runs to Karachi and ordered a new ball. Despite the penalty, Karachi chased down 129 with three balls to spare, sealing a four-wicket victory.
Zaman denied the charge in a disciplinary hearing led by match referee Roshan Mahanama. A second hearing is scheduled within 48 hours.
If found guilty, Zaman could face a one- to two-match suspension. He joins a list of players previously penalized for similar offenses, such as Australia’s David Warner, Steve Smith, and Cameron Bancroft in 2018.
