Erling Haaland, Manchester City striker and Norway’s all-time leading goalscorer, has donated a rare 1594 manuscript of Snorri Sturluson’s Viking sagas to the public library in Time, Norway.
He and his father, Alf-Inge Haaland, acquired the volume at auction for 1.3 million Norwegian crowns ($133,636)-a national record for book sales. The text chronicles medieval Norse kings and will remain on permanent display in his home region of Jæren.
"I have seen how books enable many people to dream and make their dreams come true," Haaland said.
The 25-year-old is now preparing to lead Norway in its first World Cup in 28 years this June.
