Sunrisers Hyderabad captain Pat Cummins is unfazed by the high-scoring nature of this year's Indian Premier League (IPL), viewing it as a significant challenge for bowlers. With flat tracks, short boundaries, and the Impact Player rule contributing to routine 200-plus targets, even a 264-run score was chased down this season.
Cummins, playing his first IPL match after recovering from injury, stated, "It's fine, it's a good challenge." He believes strong batting lineups can ease pressure on bowlers, where "one wicket, one really good over, can actually be as important as a good spell would be in a lower-scoring game."
Despite facing prodigious talent like 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who hit Cummins for a six off the first ball, the captain remained positive. "I think he's my new favourite player," Cummins said of the young batter. "He hits the ball so hard. It's great to watch, it's good fun. You got to be right on the money as a bowler."
Hyderabad's team strategy remains focused on maximizing batting potential while bowlers aim to limit opposition scores. This approach has seen them climb to third place in the league standings.
