Two Winnipeg Jets stars found themselves on different paths Tuesday. Forward Kyle Connor returned to the team instead of joining his U.S. men’s hockey teammates at the White House. Meanwhile, goaltender Connor Hellebuyck remained in the U.S. to attend President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address, where he was announced to receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
Hellebuyck, lauded for his 41 saves in the gold-medal victory, expressed his appreciation. Connor, who played limited minutes during the Olympics, stated his priority was rejoining the Jets for their upcoming game against the Vancouver Canucks.

Head coach Scott Arniel confirmed Connor's intention to prioritize the team's demanding second half of the season. The U.S. team had arrived in Miami after their Olympic play and proceeded to Washington D.C.

The Jets, currently outside the playoff picture, aim to leverage Hellebuyck's Olympic momentum. Backup Eric Comrie is expected to start Wednesday, with Hellebuyck returning Friday. Defenseman Josh Morrissey will be evaluated for an undisclosed injury.

Captain Adam Lowry expressed confidence that Hellebuyck's elite performance on the world stage will translate to the Jets.
