Jaguars HC Liam Coen: Travis Hunter's Two-Way Role 'Plan Has Not Changed'

Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Liam Coen and general manager James Gladstone have reaffirmed their commitment to using Travis Hunter as a two-way player, despite offseason speculation about a full-time move to cornerback.

"The plan has not changed at all," Coen said. "He's going to play both sides of the football just as we drafted him to do."

Hunter suffered a season-ending torn LCL as a rookie, logging roughly 61% of his snaps on offense and 37% on defense. Gladstone reported Hunter is recovering well and will be full go by training camp.

"He's in a good spot," Gladstone said. "He's out on the grass in a limited fashion."

The GM also addressed growing national buzz about Hunter potentially shifting to cornerback full-time, responding with an emphatic "Absolutely not." However, Gladstone did note that fans should expect an uptick in corner usage this season due to roster changes, including the departures of Greg Newsome II and Tyson Campbell in free agency.

"Our roster construction is different than it was a year ago," Gladstone said. "It's more fitting to slot him in at corner in a different way."

Hunter's increased role at cornerback is also supported by the team's decision not to draft a cornerback and the extension of wide receiver Jakobi Meyers, suggesting Hunter will remain a key offensive contributor while becoming an every-down corner.
