Mohammad Abualnadi, a 25-year-old center-back from Overland Park, Kansas, is poised to make history. He will suit up for Jordan at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the country’s inaugural appearance in the tournament finals.
Jordan secured their spot during AFC qualifying on June 5, 2025. Abualnadi, a product of American youth development with Jordanian heritage, exemplifies the strategic recruitment driving this milestone.
Abualnadi developed through the Sporting Kansas City academy before playing college soccer at Notre Dame and Pittsburgh. His professional journey includes tenures with Sporting KC II and Al-Qasim. Since September 2024, he has played for Selangor FC in the Malaysia Super League under a contract extending through May 2026.
After representing Jordan at U19 and U23 levels, Abualnadi earned his senior debut in 2024. By early 2026, he had accumulated 14 caps for the national team.
His inclusion highlights the Jordan Football Association’s deliberate strategy to leverage the diaspora. The 2026 squad blends experienced domestic players with talent cultivated in robust ecosystems like the United States, signaling a new era for Jordanian football.
